TMS Treatment for Depression: Scholarship Program Offers Hope for Patients in Need

At Axis Integrated Mental Health, we know that TMS Therapy is one of the best treatments for patients suffering from moderate to severe depression. We also want to ensure prescribers, not insurance companies, are determining what treatment plans are best for patients. That’s why we created our Deep TMS Scholarship Program—a way for patients with significant financial need to access one of the most effective, non-medication options for depression.

We’ve seen firsthand how TMS treatment for depression can transform lives, helping people who have tried everything else finally find relief. And now, we’re making sure that cost isn’t the reason someone misses their chance to get better.

What Is TMS Treatment for Depression?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment for major depressive disorder that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.

Deep TMS, the type we use, reaches broader and deeper brain structures than traditional TMS. This may improve outcomes for patients who haven’t responded to medications or therapy.

Unlike antidepressants, TMS does not require anesthesia, has minimal side effects, and allows you to resume daily activities immediately after each session.

When combined with our proprietary StorySHIFT™ protocol, TMS not only helps the brain heal but also helps patients break free from self-limiting beliefs that keep them stuck.

Why We’re Expanding Our Pro Bono Mental Health Care

In 2025, we more than doubled our commitment to providing pro bono mental health care to those in financial need. This expansion means dedicating more treatment slots to patients who might otherwise never have access to TMS therapy for depression.

Because of this increased commitment, we are not accepting new scholarship patients until 2026. We know waiting can be difficult, but this ensures that the program is sustainable for future recipients.

How Deep TMS Helps Depression

Research shows that up to 60% of patients who haven’t improved with medication respond positively to TMS treatment for depression. About one-third achieve full remission—meaning they’re no longer clinically depressed. Many experience benefits that last for months or years with follow-up care.

These outcomes represent more than statistics—they’re real people reclaiming joy, focus, and a sense of purpose.

Who Gets Priority for the TMS Scholarship Program?

The program is privately funded by the owners of Axis Integrated Mental Health and has limited spots. We prioritize applicants in this order:

  1. Current Axis patients with documented financial need who have been active for at least 3 months

  2. Patients with strong behavioral compliance–consistent attendance, treatment follow-through, and open communication with providers

  3. Patients with moderate to severe depression who are medically appropriate for Deep TMS

  4. Individuals who have not improved with traditional depression treatments such as medications or therapy

  5. Patients ready to commit to the full 6-week treatment program and sign a contract that agrees to the scheduling terms

Why We Require 3 Months of Care Before Applying

To join the program, patients must first be under our care for at least 3 months. This time allows us to confirm your diagnosis and treatment history, assess readiness for TMS treatment, and ensure medical safety and behavioral stability.

This isn’t about delaying care. It's about ensuring that scarce resources are distributed to those who can truly benefit.

Expectations for Scholarship Recipients

Patients accepted into the program must attend all scheduled sessions on time (no more than 3 no-shows), commit to a set daily schedule with minimal changes, follow all provider instructions and clinic policies, avoid excessive alcohol or non-prescribed drug use (due to seizure risk), and complete follow-up assessments as requested.
