Despite the excitement around Proposition 122 and media reports suggesting immediate access, psilocybin treatment is not legally or clinically available through licensed mental health providers in Colorado as of now. Axis Integrated Mental Health does not currently offer psilocybin, and here’s why.
Prop 122 decriminalized personal use, possession, and cultivation of psilocybin for adults 21 and over, and it laid the groundwork for licensed healing centers. However, this does not equate to legalization for medical treatment. As of early 2025, licensed centers have only just begun the regulatory process, and therapy-based treatment options are not yet legally available to patients.
Although the FDA has granted psilocybin "breakthrough therapy" status for treatment-resistant depression, the compound is still under investigation. Legal, prescription-based use requires rigorous clinical trials and regulatory review. Until those hurdles are cleared, psilocybin remains unavailable in traditional healthcare settings.
Some early trials using synthetic psilocybin (like Comp360) have shown promise in relieving depression and anxiety. However, many studies had small sample sizes and focused on specific populations, such as cancer patients facing end-of-life distress. These conditions are very different from the general population, and no long-term, large-scale data has yet confirmed psilocybin's efficacy in broader mental health contexts.
Our mission is to offer evidence-based, research-backed mental health treatments. At Axis Integrated Mental Health, we already see powerful, measurable results from treatments like TMS, Spravato, and ketamine. While we support the ongoing research into psychedelics, we won’t offer a treatment until it’s proven to be safe, effective, and accessible.

Psilocybin therapy may one day become a valuable tool in mental health care, but for now, the research and legal systems are still catching up. At Axis Integrated Mental Health, we’re watching closely—and we’ll be ready when science and safety align.
